I WAS ON THE BOARD AT THE NEW COMMISSARY. HOWEVER, THAT DID NOT KEEP US OUT OF THE RATION CONTROL. ONE MONTH WE WERE OVER BY 1 PINT OF OF BEST FOODS/HELMANS MAYO.

MY HUSBAND WAS CALLED IN BY HIS BOSS. NO BIG DEAL. JUST BE A LITTLE MORE CAREFUL HE SAID.

I was at Yongsan 76-77, 78-79, 81-84, 86-89. I personally witnessed some banana wars, which could actually be quite entertaining. The ration control system changed, and evolved over the years. The system in effect during my first tour '76-'77 was even more ridiculous than later versions. At that time, the Commissary had a separate controlled section that contained all the popular black market items: Tang, Instant Coffee, Cigarettes, etc. A patron went in, selected items, and the item and quantity was marked off the ration control card as they exited the controlled section (items were not paid for at this point). You had to keep an eye on your cart as you continued to shop, as people would sneak the rationed items out of your cart and into theirs.
